The Counts of Montfort live in Tettnang

1667

 

Count Johann VIII of Montfort erects the Old Palace (Altes Schloss) on the site of the castle destroyed in the Thirty Years' War

Count Anton III of Montfort commissions the architect Christoph Gessinger to draw up plans of the New Palace (Neues Schloss) in Tettnang

1713

 

Building of the New Palace commences

1728

 

The work is discontinued due to a lack of money. Count Anton III resigns from the government

1730/31

 

His son, Count Ernst of Montfort, has the Chapel (Kapelle) in the palace completed

1753

 

The palace is completely gutted by fire. Count Franz Xaver of Montfort immediately has rebuilding begun. Austria provides financial support.

1758/59

 

The seventeen year old Angelika Kaufmann paints portraits of the Count of Montfort

1779

 

The County is surrendered to Austria due to the huge debt accumulated

1787

 

The dynasty dies out with Count Anton IV

1959

 

Restoration work begins

1977

 

The garden is recreated based on baroque examples

1997

 

Restoration work is completed
