built the New Palace (Neues Schloss) in Tettnang at the site of the destroyed castle beginning in 1712. In 1728, when the palace was not yet completed, Count Anton was forced to discontinue building the palace due to his immense debts and resigned from the government. He moved to Argen, then returned to Salzburg in 1728 and died there 1733. From 1693 Count Anton was married to Maria Anna Countess of Thun, who came from a very influential family that loved to build. He shared this addiction to splendor and the ambition of his wife, and attempted with the ambitious palace building in Tettnang to create a baroque court completely inappropriate for his true financial means and standing.
The son of Count Anton and Countess Maria Anna was only able to carry out a very few preservation measures. He had the Court Chapel (Hofkapelle) completed as the last building in 1730/31.
Count Franz Xaver succeeded in continuing his grandfather's work following the fire of 1753. He employed the best artists in the region around Lake Constance and had the interior rooms luxuriously furnished. However, in the end the dependence on Austria which he entered into due to his lack of means led to the county being taken over by the neighboring country in 1780. Franz Xaver died the same year.
Franz Xaver's second wife can be seen in a typical Rococo representation portrait. This painting, companion piece to the portrait of her husband, was painted by Angelika Kaufmann.
